When a resting cigarette is accidentally knocked over, it can smolder for hours before a flare-up occurs. Just a few breaths of the smoke will endanger your life and by the time the heat wakes you up your means of escape may be gone.\n\nThe Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service offers a smoke alarm program for senior and low-income homeowners. Just a few minutes of planning can prevent a tragedy.\n\nDraw a map of your house marking all windows and doors, and plan two routes out of each room. Make sure to regularly practice your escape plan. Preventable fire deaths can be reduced if families equip themselves with a map and a plan:\n\nDesignate a meeting place outside and take attendance. Get out and stay out. Never return to a burning or smoky building. Pets are intuitive and will likely find a way out.\nRemember to escape first, then call 911.\nIt is a good idea to keep a pair of slippers, eyeglasses and a flashlight by your bed at night. If you hear your smoke alarm at night you will be prepared to get out of your home quickly. Once you hear the sound of your smoke alarm ~ every second counts for your escape. Got class? The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) is dedicated to the safety and well being of your students and is committed to teaching children and families in Montgomery County about fire safety and the prevention of unintentional injuries in the community and in the classroom. To address the safety needs of children in Montgomery County, we offer the nationally acclaimed \"Risk Watch\" safety program for delivery in the classroom.Risk Watch is the first comprehensive injury prevention program available for use in schools. Developed by NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) with co-funding from the Lowe's Home Safety Council and in collaboration with a panel of respected safety and injury prevention experts, Risk Watch gives children and their families the skills and knowledge they need to create safer homes and communities.\n\nRisk Watch is a school-based curriculum, aligned with the State's Standards of Learning, that links teachers with community safety experts and parents. The curriculum is divided into five age-appropriate teaching modules (Pre-K/Kindergarten, Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6, and Grades 7-8), each of which addresses the following topics: \nMotor Vehicle Safety;Fire and Burn Prevention;Choking, Suffocation, and Strangulation Prevention;Poisoning Prevention\n;Falls Prevention;Firearms Injury Prevention;Bike and Pedestrian Safety;Water Safety.\nIn addition to classrooms, Risk Watch is available to day care centers, before and after school programs, scout troops, camps and church groups. We love to support your safety efforts in the classroom! For more information, please contact us at 240-777-2463.\n\nRisk Watch lessons are not merely \"add-ons.\" They can be used to meet learning objectives in mandated subject areas. NFPA has correlated Risk Watch lessons with the health and language arts learning objectives required by virtually every state and Canadian province." ]

Where is the proper place to call 9-1-1? Remember that a fire grows very quickly.", null, null ]
